DemoLAB: Melbourne Design Week

About this event

DemoLAB – Melbourne Design Week edition – March – Featured project: Accessible Graphics presented by Matthew Butler and Sensilab

DemoLAB is a creative tech demo night co-hosted by Media Lab Melbourne and ACMI, and we want to see what you’ve been working on.

A social night at ACMI X where you are encouraged to bring along your creative tech demos, half baked ideas, full baked ideas, experiments and everything in between. Get those WIP projects out of the studio and bring them along to share with our creative community of tech art loving people over pizza and a few drinks.

We will also be bringing you a broad selection of amazing featured artists throughout the event series. These artists will be giving short presentations which will give you a look into what makes them tick, how they do the crazy things they do and why they do it.

In collaboration with Melbourne Design Week and Sensilab, our featured project for March is Accessible Graphics for the Vision Impaired Community presented by Matthew Butler.

Matthew Butler

Matthew is a senior lecturer and researcher within the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, and part of the SensiLab research laboratory. His research looks at how the provision of accessible graphics can be improved for those with a vision impairment, in particular investigating the use of emerging low-cost technologies such as 3D printing and electronics to produce innovative accessible objects for the vision impaired community. Contexts being investigated include maps and plans for orientation and mobility, objects required by children for learning, and creating more accessible experiences in art gallery settings.

GIVING BACK TO THOSE IN NEED – YOUTH PROJECTS
A reminder that while we have changed venues, we continue our support Youth Projects, our Donations Partner, who do work for homeless and disadvantaged youth.

If anyone has any old laptops, headphones, charger cables, mobiles, power banks and MP3 players that need a new home we are happy to take them as donations to those in need. Also if you would like to donate something else a list of needed items is below.
